Getting your child used to the water and helping her to learn to love it, is a key part of our program. The first stage of introducing water to your child is from bath time at home. I recommend the parents to use baths toys and songs during bath time .These will help the child to relax. Once your child is happy playing in the bath, you can transfer the bath time games and songs to the pool.
In the pool 1st introduce water to your own face or on a doll. The child usually find it amusing when the parent pour water on them.
Then we try a little on your child's face. You may try by dripping few droplets of water on your child face and then slowly increase the amount.
If your child cries and becomes distressed after having water on her face, try to distract her with song, toys or games. If you are able to distract her, then repeat the process of water pouring between the parent and the child.
If you are unable to distract her, stop the game and back off. Play other activity that you child enjoys or pour on to less threatening part of the body like the legs, hands or body.
The pictures that i show you are from a 1-year-old student of mine. At the beginning she turns away when her father wants to pour some water on the face again.
However, the father persistently playing the water pouring game with her in a fun way that he knows his daughter will find it fun. Eventually the daughter gives in and enjoy it so much that she starts pouring it on herself and by herself repeatedly.
below is the video where you can see her pour water on herself :)
